Art

At Thatto Heath Community Primary School we believe that Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world and enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.

We have carefully planned our art and design curriculum to offer a high-quality Art and Design education which inspires children to think innovatively and develop an artistic process. We want to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, crafts and design.

Our main aim for our pupils is for them to be able to think critically and develop a deeper understanding of art and design. They will also know how art and design both reflects and shapes history and how it can contribute to the future and creativity of the world.

At Thatto Heath Community Primary School our pupils will be competent artists because they will:

• Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
• Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
• Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
• Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
